Chamartin de la Rosa Current Chamartin district has originated in a town near Madrid and called Chamartin de la Rosa, dating from the thirteenth century. It was situated between the towns of Fuencarral and Hortaleza, in the way of Alcobendas, and the expansion of the city of Madrid, Chamartin is annexed as a district in 1947. Chamartin de la Rosa included the present districts of Chamartin Tetuan and the north of Ciudad Lineal, the Pinar de Chamartin.
Chamartin de la Rosa was a rural village, mainly devoted to dry farming, although several country houses of the aristocracy were located there as well. Such is the case of "El Recuerdo" or Guillamas farm, where the Duke of Pastrana, Infantry, a descendant of Mendoza, palaces with beautiful rose gardens. And it was Don Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, third Duke of infants who acquired land in the village of Chamartin in the sixteenth century.
The main square Chamartin de la Rosa was located in the current Plaza del Duque de Pastrana, although nowadays is no longer any of the original buildings and the parish, which is dedicated to San Miguel, is located further north on the Avenida de Burgos.
The parish dates from the thirteenth century, but the current building is a reconstruction after the Civil War.
In 1808, Napoleon arrived at the Villa de Madrid, set up his headquarters at the Palacio del Duque of the Infantry and his troops camped in the grove near Chamartin. A plaque of the City of Madrid in the wall of the existing Memorial College refers to this event. Napoleon have just left the farm and resting against a tree, now known as "pine Napoleon."
The New Palace of the Duke of Pastrana, was Infantado built in the eighteenth century and ceded to the Sacred Heart nuns in the mid-nineteenth to the creation of a school for girls in Madrid's bourgeoisie. In 1931, the new palace is destroyed by fire and rebuilt with more modern buildings of the 70.
the late nineteenth century, gave the "Quinta El Recuerdo" with its gardens and the old palace of the Dukes to the Society of Jesus, to another school: Our Lady of Remembrance, known as the Jesuits Chamartin. The palace building was also demolished and replaced by more modern. From 1920 dates the first pavilion built at the school, inspired by the tower-house Azpeita Ignatius of Loyola.
Platerías On the street corner Paseo de La Habana, stands the mansion built in 1846 by Frenchman Louis Guilhou Rives and which he called "Quinta de San Enrique." He is currently Head of the ONCE Foundation.
